The Wyoming County Commissioners Association (WCCA) recently published the Wyoming Public Lands Handbook. This first-of-its-kind publication provides an overview of the various public lands found in Wyoming and how those lands are managed by their respective federal or state agencies.
The Handbook includes a description and map for each of the several national forests, parks, monuments, recreation areas, and historical sites and landmarks found in Wyoming. The Handbook also gives an overview and history of five federal agencies—the USDA Forest Service, the National Parks Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Bureau of Reclamation—and describes how each of these agencies operate in Wyoming.
“Understanding the federal management landscape in Wyoming is the first step to sound public lands management,” said WCCA Executive Director, Pete Obermueller. “We are hopeful this book helps to elevate the discussions about federal lands in Wyoming.”
Public lands are an important part of Wyoming’s history, culture and economy. The Handbook is intended to be a resource to help the citizens of this state better understand the public lands found here.
The Wyoming Public Lands Handbook is available electronically on the WCCA’s website at www.wyo-wcca.org. To receive a printed copy of the handbook, please contact the WCCA office at 307-632-5409.
