Wyoming Drops Three-Set Affair at No. 21 Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (Oct. 13, 2015) – Laura Beach slammed down a team-best eight kills and Allison Waldvogel scooped up 11 digs on Tuesday night, but the Cowgirls fell to No. 21 Colorado State at Moby Arena in three sets. It proved to be the 18th match that Waldvogel led UW in digs and eighth time Beach has been the team-leader in kills.

 Beach also led the Cowgirls (15-4, 5-2 MW) hitting .400 (8-2-15) on the evening, while Bridget Shanahan buried six kills against the MW leading Rams (14-3, 7-0 MW). Shanahan is now four kills shy of tying for 15th place on the all-time list for UW and currently sits with 949 for her career. Fellow senior Kayla Henderson chipped in five kills against CSU and Reed Copeland added a team-high four roofs with three kills on Tuesday night.

For the 15th time, junior Courtney Chacon guided the offense with a team-high 13 assists. Chacon has had double-digit assists in every match this season for the Cowgirls. Cori Aafedt also added eight assists for UW. Freshman Mattison DeGarmo had a career-high two service aces and finished the night with three total blocks as well. Kayla Slofkiss was second on the team with seven digs and also had herself two kills, as sophomore Lily Austin and DeGarmo each had three digs for the Cowgirls.

DeGarmo had both of her service aces early in the first set, while Beach and Shanahan each had a team-high four kills. Chacon contributed four assists in the second set to have a total of 10 before intermission, as Shanahan posted three kills in the second stanza to pace UW. In the third frame, CSU took control early with a 10-4 lead and never backed. Slofkiss had three digs for Wyoming as five different Cowgirls had one kill.

Wyoming continues its road trip at San José State on Thursday at 7 p.m., MT in San Jose, California
