LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 28, 2015) – The University of Wyoming Cowgirl soccer team will travel south to play the Colorado State Rams in Ft. Collins, Colo. on Friday. This will be the third-ever Border War between the two schools. Wyoming has come out on top in both matches. UW sits in fourth place of the Mountain West standings. The Cowgirls need a victory over the Rams to secure a spot in the 2015 MW Championship Tournament. Last season, UW lost to San Diego State 1-0 in overtime of the MW Championship match. This season, Wyoming holds a 9-5-4 overall record and a 5-4-1 conference record.
Wyoming’s defense has shutout eight teams this season, breaking their previous record of seven. Goalkeepers Georgia Rowntree and Cassidy Entsminger have totaled 68 saves on the season. Combined, they hold an astonishing .78 goals against average.
The Cowgirls have a solid offense, outshooting their opponents 252-192 on the season. Last season, UW won 4-1 in Laramie. Goals came from Alisha Bass, Kaitlyn Lomsnes, Candace Scibberras and Mandy Meyer. CSU has only scored one goal in the two matches against Wyoming.
This is the third year for the Colorado State soccer program. They have an overall record of 3-14-2 and a MW conference mark of 0-9-1. The Rams are led by Hannah Gerdin with five goals, one assist and 11 points on the season. CSU’s goalkeeper Jesse McGinley leads the MW in saves with 99.
The match is set for a 3 p.m. MT, kickoff. This will be the second time the Cowgirls have met Colorado State in Ft. Collins.
