COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Oct. 4, 2015) – Sophomore defender Alisha Bass scored the lone goal for the Cowgirls on Sunday as they fell to the Colorado College Tigers in overtime at Stewart Field. The goal came from a penalty kick in the 36th minute of play and proved to be her first goal of the season. The Tigers’ Sarah Schweiss headed a ball past freshman goalkeeper Cassidy Entsminger in the 97th minute of the match to give CC the win. The first goal of the afternoon came from Anne-Sophie Lapointe in the 25th minute of the match. Wyoming drops to 6-3-3 on the year and 2-2-0 in conference play.
“I thought the team played really well today,” Wyoming head soccer coach Pete Cuadrado said. “We created a lot of chances in front of the net but at the end of the day it’s still frustrating.”
UW’s offense stayed strong throughout regulation as the Cowgirls outshot the Tigers 19-6. Sophomore forward Shaina Ashouri led Wyoming in shots with four. Forwards Kaitlyn Lomsnes and Laurel Ramer each had three, as junior defender Sammi Dunda and sophomore midfielder Summer Halle each tallied two shots. Defenders Bass, Katie Marcheso and Alyssa Murray, midfielder Annika Clayton and forward Anne Hinman each notched one shot of their own.
“It’s unfortunate to have so many shots and not be able to put one in the back of the net,” Cuadrado added. “That’s what the game comes down to though. Outside of that, I think we played good soccer today.”
The Cowgirl defense only allowed six shots during the match. Goalkeepers Georgia Rowntree and Entsminger recorded a total of three saves throughout the match. Rowntree came away with two saves as Entsminger had one.
Wyoming will return to the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex on Friday to take on the New Mexico Lobos. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. MT.
