LARAMIE, Wyo. (Oct. 29, 2015) –The Cowgirl volleyball team moved its home winning streak to nine for the third time in program history by defeating Nevada in straight sets on Thursday night. Kayla Slofkiss recorded her team-leading 10th double-double of the season, while freshman Reed Copeland hit a career-high 10 kills and match-high eight blocks against the Wolf Pack. Wyoming ran away with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-21) victory and with the win, has not lost at home since Sept. 11 of this season.
Slofkiss led the Cowgirls for the third-consecutive match and 11th overall this year with 11 kills tonight. She also scooped up 11 digs against the Wolf Pack in addition to two service aces. Copeland had another dazzling-defensive performance with a match-high in blocks. Not only was it her 15th match leading UW in blocks, it was the fifth-straight.
Allison Waldvogel led both squads with 13 digs on the evening, while Courtney Chacon had a team-high 21 assists. Cori Aafedt had 17 assists and eight digs against Nevada, as Bridget Shanahan and Laura Beach had eight and seven kills, respectively. Freshmen Mattison DeGarmo chipped in four kills and four blocks, and Emily Hines had three kills and three blocks for the Cowgirls.
Beach and Shanahan each had four kills in the first set that included a 7-1 run in favor of UW early in the contest. Slofkiss slammed home five in the second frame, as Copeland blistered five in the third and final set. Slofkiss also had five digs in each the first and third set, whereas Waldvogel had five in the second.
Shanahan continues to climb closer to 1,000 kills and also Erin Kirby for 13th place on the all-time kills list for Wyoming. With the match tonight, Shanahan is six from tying her former teammate with 989 career kills. Waldvogel moved into seventh on the single-season digs list with 387 on the season, while Copeland is now nine blocks away from 10th place on the single-season blocks list. She currently has 135 so far this year.
UW returns to the UniWyo on Saturday afternoon for matchup with San Diego State. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
