Single-Vehicle Crash Near Green River Takes the Life of Nine-Year-Old Boy

(OCTOBER 26, 2015) — A single-vehicle crash northwest of Green River, Wyoming on October 25th has resulted in the death of a nine-year-old boy from Riverton, Wyoming named Maddyx A. Fischer.

The crash occurred at 11:45 a.m. on Wyoming State Highway 372 near mile post five approximately 12 miles northwest of Green River. Maddyx was a passenger in a 2007 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck driven by his mother, 31 year old Ashley D. Fischer, who is also from Riverton.

The truck was traveling north on WY 372 when it drifted off the highway to the east. The truck was overcorrected back onto the road and began to slide. During the slide, the Chevy partially left the road again, tripped and rolled multiple times.

Maddyx had just moved from the back seat of the truck to the front seat and was not buckled up at the time of the crash. Maddyx was ejected during the crash and was transported by helicopter ambulance to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah where he succumbed to his injuries. Ashley Fischer was wearing her seat belt during the crash. She was transported by ground ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs, Wyoming and has been treated and released.

The crash did cause a temporary closure of WY 372 from 12:08 p.m. until 1:51 p.m. Speed and driver distraction are being investigated at this time as contributing factors in this crash that marked the 120th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. In 2014, 126 fatalities had occurred in this same time period.
