Rock Springs Woman Killed in ATV Crash on White Mountain

(Rock Springs, Wyo. – October 11, 2015) — The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Rock Springs woman in an ATV crash that occurred Saturday.

Sheriff Mike Lowell said Janice Oliveto, 64, and her husband, Dominic Oliveto, were on White Mountain in their all-terrain vehicle, a 2012 Arctic Cat 1000 VHD side-by-side, about 3/4s of a mile northeast of the intersection of the White Mountain Road and the Gookin-White Mountain Road when the crash occurred at about 12:47 PM.

Investigating deputies determined that the Olivetos became stuck on a very steep slope at the top of the mountain and were working to extricate themselves when the accident happened. Janice Oliveto was at the ATV’s wheel and Dominic Oliveto was just behind the vehicle when it accelerated forward, then rolled several times down the slope, coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Janice Oliveto died of injuries sustained in the crash. Deputies investigating the accident found no indication that alcohol was a factor.

Among the first responder agencies at the scene were the Sweetwater County Coroner’s Office, Sweetwater County Fire District #1 – whose firefighters carried Mrs. Oliveto’s body down the mountain – and Eagle Air Med.
