Fire Causes Classes To Be Cancelled At WWCC

A small fire at Western Wyoming Community College has resulted in the cancellation of classes for the remainder of the day. Classes scheduled at the Green River Center will continue as normal.RS Airport

Christopher Sheid, Coordinator of Marketing and Communication, says no injuries resulted from the fire and normal evacuation procedures were followed. The fire happened in the school’s basement at approximately 1:20 p.m. Sheid says the fire was electrical in nature and has resulted in a power outage at the school.

Sheid says it is unclear if classes will resume tomorrow, but they anticipate that classes will take place tomorrow. Updates will be posted on WWCC’s Facebook Page and Twitter Account.

As a result of the power outage, the basketball games scheduled at WWCC will take place tomorrow, January 14 at WWCC. The women’s game tips off at 3 p.m. and the men’s game starts at 5 p.m.

There are no estimates as to the cost of damage at this time. Sheid said the Union Pacific Archives and other items are stored in the basement. He said to his knowledge those archives were not damaged, but damage is still being assessed at this time.
