Cowgirl Tennis Has Tough Outing on Thursday at ITA Championships

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Oct. 15, 2015) – The Wyoming tennis team had a tough second day at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas.

“Today was a gut check day for the team as to who we are and what we want to be,” UW head coach Dean Clower said. “Hopefully, the ladies learned from the experience and we will continued to grow as a team.”

In doubles action, the lone remaining team in the main draw of Dorottya Jonas and Elisa Koonik lost by the score of 8-6 against Jeannez Daniel and Nuria Ormeno-Ruiz of Colorado.

Sophomore Magdalena Stencel was the only individual to come away with a victory on the day in singles play. She defeated her first opponent of the tournament Adriana Gergelyova of Nevada in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Unfortunately, Stencel fell in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6 against Ruth Copas of New Mexico. Junior Miranda Talbert lost to Nuria Ormeno-Ruiz, 6-2, 6-4, while senior Nastya Tokareva was defeated by Taylor Calton of Utah, 6-1, 6-1. The final Cowgirl in action was Jonas who came up short, 6-0, 6-2, against Bianca Mok of Denver.

The round of 16 and quarterfinal round of doubles will be played along with round of 16, consolation and additional singles matches on Friday.
