Laramie, Wyo. (Oct. 19, 2015) — After a near perfect day throwing the football last Saturday, Wyoming redshirt senior quarterback Cameron Coffman was selected the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Coffman helped lead Wyoming to a 28-21 home win over Nevada last Saturday. He completed 90.0 percent of his passes (18 of 20) on the day and posted a 2015 MW single-game high passer rating of 228.96. That passer rating ranks as the 19th best single-game performance in the nation this season.
The native of Peculiar, Mo., threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions against the Wolf Pack. He also rushed for 32 yards to account for 245 yards of total offense and was not sacked a single time.
His three TD passes were to three different receivers — a 27-yard strike to wide receiver Tanner Gentry, an 18-yard pass to tight end Jacob Hollister and a 12-yard pass to wide receiver Jake Maulhardt.
Coffman and his offensive unit put Wyoming up 7-0 in the second quarter and the Cowboys would never relinquish the lead the rest of the day, building leads of 14-7, 21-7 and 28-7 before winning by a final margin of 28-21.
Wyoming’s quarterback guided the Cowboys on a key drive to start the second half, leading UW on an eight-play, 76-yard drive on its first possession of the third quarter to build its lead to 28-7. One of the big plays on that drive was a 46-yard pass completion to Gentry.
Coffman led Wyoming on three long scoring drives of 65, 75 and 76 yards, plus adding a fourth scoring drive of 47 yards.
For the season, he leads the Mountain West in virtually every passing category, including passing yards (250.7 per game), passing efficiency (153.8 rating), completion percentage (66.1 percent), passing TDs (14) and he leads the league in total offense (237.2 yards per game) and points responsible for (14.0 points per game).
Coffman is also ranked among the nation’s top quarterbacks, ranking No. 18 in passing TDs, No. 21 in completion percentage, No. 21 in passing efficiency, No. 29 in points responsible for and No. 33 in passing yards per game.
The redshirt senior is in his first season starting for Wyoming after transferring from Indiana University a year ago.
