(Rock Springs, Wyo. – October 21, 2015) — The death of a Colorado man whose body was found in southern Sweetwater County on Saturday has been determined to be a suicide.
In a joint release issued by the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s and Coroners Offices, the victim was identified as Jeffrey Paul Hogan, 43, of Canon City, Colorado.
Captain Jason Love of the Sheriff’s Office said a Rock Springs couple was hunting deer on Greenhough Creek on the eastern slope of Little Mountain on the morning of October 17th when they came upon a blue Ford Aspire with Colorado license plates parked along a two-track.
There was no one in the vehicle and nearby the couple spotted what appeared to be the body of a man hanging from the limb of a tree and notified authorities.
Two deputy sheriffs and a Wyoming Game & Fish Department warden responded to the couple’s call, as did Sweetwater County Coroner Dale Majhanovich. Hogan’s body was cut down and transported to Rock Springs; a suicide note was found in his vehicle.
Majhanovich conducted a post-mortem examination and determined suicidal strangulation as the cause of death.
Officials said their investigation determined Hogan had been despondent recently, particularly during the days leading up to his death.
