Basketball and Volleyball Tournaments at WWCC Beginning this Weekend

ROCK SPRINGS  – Western Wyoming Community College will host two major athletic tournaments in the next 10 days, as the fall season culminates with the Region IX North Volleyball Tournament Nov. 4 – 7 and winter sports commence with the 2nd Annual Western Wyoming Classic men’s basketball tournament Oct. 30 – 31.

“We’re always excited to host tournaments and welcome teams from our region and elsewhere to Western’s campus,” said Athletic Director Lu Sweet on Tuesday. “The Western Wyoming Classic is in its second year and should be a fun start to our men’s basketball season. It gives us an early game against Laramie County Community College, one of our big region rivals, so it will be a good test for our players. And the Region IX North Tournament is going to showcase some outstanding volleyball, as teams compete for the chance to advance to the NJCAA National Tournament in Casper.”

Mustang Men’s Basketball will host three other teams – LCCC, Northwest College, and Impact Academy out of Nevada – for the Classic, which begins at 5 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 30, in Rushmore Gymnasium with LCCC vs. NWC. The Mustangs will take the floor at 7 p.m. vs. Impact Academy. On Saturday, NWC will face Impact Academy at 1 p.m. and Western will play LCCC at 3 p.m.

Their two Classic matchups will mark the Mustangs’ first regular-season action of the 2015-16 season.

On Wednesday, Western will welcome all Region IX North volleyball teams to campus for the 2015 region tourney. Final seeding for the tournament is still being determined in the last week of conference play; the Mustangs play at Casper College on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in their final conference match before the double-elimination tournament.

Daily admission is $13 for adults and children 13 and older; children 12 and under get in free. Tournament passes are $25.

Volleyball action begins Wednesday, Nov. 4, with games at 2 p.m. (#4 vs. # 7 seeds), 4 p.m. (#3 vs. #6 seeds) and 6 p.m. (#2 vs. #7 seeds).

Thursday’s games are scheduled for 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. The top-seeded team will play the winner between the #4 and #5 seeds at 4 p.m.

Friday’s games are scheduled for 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. Saturday’s games are scheduled for 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. if necessary.
