Q: David, can I cut up my big game animal in the field?
A: Yes, you definitely can. Two things to keep in mind: first, if you cut up your animal in the field you need to take all of the edible portions with you. Those include the meat from front and hind quarters, loins and tenderloins. Second, some licenses require the harvest of a certain gender, have antler point/horn development restrictions or require the harvest of a certain species of deer. If any of these are the case for you, you need to have the head, horns/antlers, deer tail or external sex organs from your animal in your possession while you are transporting it to your house or to a processor. Have fun and be safe in the field!
