UW Art Museum’s Artmobile Coming to Sweetwater County

According to Western Wyoming Community College the University of Wyoming Art Museum’s Ann Simpson Artmobile, sponsored by Tronox, will host the exhibition “Surrealism: Visions of the Mind” on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Green River Center and on Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Rock Springs campus. The events will run from 6 – 8 p.m. at each location.

As part of the Artmobile’s educational mission, K-12 students will attend deep-looking and art-making sessions with Artmobile Educator Erica Ramsey throughout the week. Western’s professors will also use the Artmobile’s exhibition of original museum-quality art for their college courses.

“Sweetwater County citizens are invited to come see the Artmobile exhibition and play a traditional surrealist game with family and friends while enjoying light refreshments provided by Tronox,” Ramsey said. .

“Surrealism: Visions of the Mind” features the work of 15 different artists and represents the international significance of this 20th century artistic movement.

“Western Wyoming Community College is honored to host this event,” said Western President Karla Leach. “Each moment that we share the arts with our children, and our community, opens eyes to the creative spirit of the human mind.”

The Artmobile series of events is presented in partnership with Western and is generously sponsored by Tronox.

The Ann Simpson Artmobile program is a free core outreach program for the UW Art Museum. It allows museum-quality original artwork to travel statewide for the past 35 years. On average, the Artmobile travels two to three weeks out of every month to Wyoming communities that may have limited access to original art. The Artmobile reaches out to people of all ages, backgrounds and developmental abilities, with a special focus given to Wyoming’s K-12 schools and underserved populations, including seniors, veterans and individuals with special needs.
