Rocky Mountain Power representatives say approximately 578 people are without power due to heavy snow in the area, but it is difficult to estimate exactly how many people are without power due to how many small outages have been reported.

Rocky Mountain Power representative Margaret Oler says multiple outages have been reported in Rock Springs for a variety of reason including downed power lines due to snow, trees falling on lines, and broken poles.

Crews are working to restore power, but no estimated restoration time has been set so far.

“This is going to be something that I suspect will go throughout the day and throughout the storm probably,” said Oler about restoration.

Because there are multiple pockets of areas without power, some areas will have power before others.

Oler says crews are being brought in from around Wyoming to help restore power to all those affected in Rock Springs and the surrounding area.

According to Oler, this is other outages were reported this morning that have since been restored. An outage reported at 3:59 a.m. impacted 895 customers and was caused by a downed line due to the winter storm. Power for that outage was restored at 5:58 a.m.

Another outage was reported at 4:47 a.m. and was also caused by winter weather. That outage impacted a total of 23 customers and power was restored at 5:07 a.m.

Aspen Mountain is off the grid too, with about 60 people in that area without power. That outage has impacted KQSW, KSIT, and KMRZ.

As of about 11:40 a.m., the Rock Springs Police Department reports that traffic signals at Dewar and Gateway and at Dewar and College are flashing red. Remember, flashing red lights should be treated as stop signs. Flashing yellow means you can proceed with caution. If there is no power at a traffic signal, treat it as a four-way stop.

Power at traffic signals may be impacted by ongoing power outages.
