Washington, D.C.- Today U.S. Representative and former GOP vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan (WI-01) was elected as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
In response, U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (WY-at large) issued the following statement:
“I set out to find a reform minded speaker candidate who will ditch the ‘reward and punishment’ and ‘command and control’ tactics employed by both sides of the aisle in the House in past years and return power and authority to rank and file members and committees. Both candidates have exhibited the tremendous leadership qualities we need to challenge the status quo. Ultimately, I believe Chairman Ryan represents our best chance to unite House Republicans around restoring integrity to the legislative process and the institution that is the House of Representatives. I look forward to working with him to that end.”
