Two-Vehicle Crash on Wyoming’s Highways Takes the Life of Rock Springs Woman

(OCTOBER 23, 2015) — A two-vehicle crash northeast of Edgerton, Wyoming on October 22nd has resulted in the death of 26-year-old Rock Springs, Wyoming resident Sarah R. Spiker.

The crash occurred at 3:30 p.m. on Wyoming State Highway 387 near mile post 103 approximately three miles northeast of Edgerton.

A westbound 2009 GMC Sierra pickup, driven by 20-year-old Casper, Wyoming resident William L. Gifford, left its lane of travel and entered the eastbound lane of travel. The GMC collided head-on with the eastbound 2006 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Sarah Spiker in the eastbound lane of travel.

Sarah Spiker was not wearing her seat belt and sustained fatal injuries on the scene. William Gifford was wearing his seat belt and was transported by helicopter ambulance to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. His status is unknown at the time of this release.

The crash did cause a closure of the highway until 10:05 p.m. Contributing factors in this crash are still under investigation and charges are pending. Sarah Spiker marked the 119th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. There were 125 fatalities in this same time period in 2014.
