Sublette County Sheriff’s Office Urges Citizens to use OffenderWatch Program this Halloween

SUBLETTE COUNTY — As Halloween approaches, citizens in Sublette County are urged to utilize the OffenderWatch program to help map out the safest route possible for their trick-or-treaters.

In Sublette County, there are approximately 16 registered sex offenders, and this public website lets citizens know where they reside.  “We do the best we can in making sure that registered sex offenders live where they tell us, and we try our best to get that information out to the public,”  Sheriff Haskell said about the website, “but it is crucial that our citizens visit the website to see who the registered sex offenders are and where they are living.”  The site features mapping and address links that pinpoint exactly where the offender lives.  Citizens are encouraged to check any addresses where they or their family spend time, and not just during this Halloween season.

In addition to mapping, the site features a number of other highly beneficial tools, such as the ability to sign up for free automatic email notifications informing citizens if an offender moves within a specified radius of any address registered.  “If you have a little one at a day care or babysitter, you can register that address as well as your own to receive notifications,” Sheriff Haskell said.  The alerts are in real-time and sent out via email as soon as a new offender has registered with the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office.  “The benefit of registering for this free confidential email alert service is that it allows us to monitor your important addresses for you, thereby keeping you up-to-date of newly registered offenders and making it unnecessary for you to have to check your addresses daily or even weekly”.

The website for the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office is http://www.sublettewyo.com. Under departments, locate the Sheriff tab, to the right Citizens should click on the link “locate registered sex offenders” and follow the instructions to check their neighborhood and sign up to receive free e-mail alerts.

Sheriff Haskell encourages everyone to have a fun and safe Halloween.  Knowledge is power and knowing where the registered sex offenders reside in your area can help you make the best choices for safe and enjoyable Halloween activities.
