Weapons Call Turns into DUI Arrest

ROCK SPRINGS — On October 1st 2015 around 4:30 p.m., officers and deputies from the Rock Springs Police Department and the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a call regarding a man in a vehicle that had a shotgun in the area of Foothill and Signal.

It was reported that the driver of the vehicle was driving erratically and during a stop at a stop sign, was holding a firearm and had juvenile children in the vehicle.

Multiple officers responded to the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle. A vehicle matching the description was eventually located on Elk Street by a Sheriff’s deputy.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 17 year old male. The juvenile male was found to be under the influence of alcohol and subsequently arrested for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol and transported to the Sweetwater County Detention Center.

Two younger children were found in the vehicle unharmed and were released to relatives.

Officers did locate a firearm in the vehicle, but investigation revealed that it had not been used in a threatening manner and no one had been in danger.

This investigation is ongoing.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
